CANCELLATION POLICY & FEES

Marjorie May is an appointment based salon. Arriving late for scheduled appointments, late-cancellations, and skipped appointments have negative impacts on our small business. In order to provide high quality products & employ skilled staff, we need to charge for every appointment that is booked. Technicians are paid on a commission base and missed appointments removes money directly from their paycheck & it prevents us from being able to book them a guest from our wait list.

Please call us if you are going to be more than five minutes late to your scheduled appointment. If you are running more than 15 minutes late, it's possible that you will need to be rescheduled & charged as a no-show for this appointment. .

If you are unable to make your appointment, please cancel or reschedule your appointment at least 12 hours prior to your scheduled appointment time.

Temporary COVID-19 Rules: During this time, cancellation fees will be waived if health is compromised or if COVID-19 exposure is in question. Please be considerate and truthful when calling to reschedule. If you or your household is feeling even the slightest bit sickly, let’s reschedule. We ask that you not purposely risk the health of our staff or other guests. No-Show appointments will now be charged 100% of service price due to the high demand & limited availability of appointment slots.

How long do I need to grow out my hair?

Your hair should be at a minimum of 3 weeks growth. The longer the hair the better so do not trim. It may seem like a long time to grow it out but it will make for a much more pleasant waxing experience and better results. Your hair can never be too long but it can be too short. It’s very important to have a minimum of ¼ inch hair growth in order for the wax to grab the hair. If your hair is too short you will be asked to reschedule.

Will my hair grow back thicker & darker?

No & no. You will notice after your first wax that your hair grows back much softer than the coarse regrowth from shaving. Keep up on waxing and your hair follicles eventually retire leaving you with hair that is finer, sparse, and slower growing. Waxing will never change the pigment of your hair.

Do I have to get naked?

Not completely naked. We will need you to undress for the area to be waxed: pants off for legs, underwear off for Brazilian, shirt off for chest/back, etc. It might be a bit uncomfortable for you, but rest assured, we do these all day long. It’s all just skin and hair to us. So, please don't feel embarrassed. We’ll do our best to put you at ease and get your service done fast!

How long will my smooth wax last?

Everyone’s results are a little different.  Our hair grows in 3 cycles each lasting around 28 days. Some people are completely smooth after their first wax, for others it can take several waxes before all of the new growth shorties come up. With regular waxing (no shaving in between!) you will eventually see smooth results that last longer and longer. 4-6 weeks between waxes is a good gauge to start with but based on your unique hair pattern, your esthetician will guide you to your ideal grow out time.

 Does waxing hurt?

Yes and no. The anticipation is the worst part but after your first wax you’ll see that it’s nothing to be frightened of. Waxing is quick and the pain does not linger; it’s more like a sting from ripping off a Band-Aid. Before you know it you’ll be done and hair-free! You can prep for your wax by taking Ibuprofen or Aleve and limiting your intake of caffeine and alcohol.

I’m pregnant, can I still wax?

Absolutely! You might get to a point in your pregnancy when you just can’t maneuver well enough for your personal grooming. Let us help! We will help you make you as comfortable as possible during your service. Some expecting mothers experience heightened pain sensitivity during waxing due to hormonal changes; this is normal. Consult your physician for further questions before your wax.

I’m on my period, should I reschedule?

No way! Just use a tampon and we can work around the string. No biggie, it happens all of the time. Waxing during your period can heighten pain sensitivity for some people so if you prefer to reschedule we completely understand. Otherwise come on in!

Can my partner/spouse/friend come into the appointment with me?

Unfortunately no. We want your time here to be all about you. Often having someone else in the room heightens anxiety instead of easing nerves. It is also distracting to the esthetician performing the treatment. Your partner/spouse/friend is welcome to sit in the lounge and enjoy a beverage or snack while they wait. Minors are allowed to have parent/guardian in the room during service.

Can I bring my child in the appointment with me?

If you have a baby who is content in their car seat, or an older child who can entertain themselves in the lounge during your appointment, then yes. We strive to focus our attention solely on you and sometimes a curious toddler can get in the way of that. Note: the lounge is unattended so for liability concerns and safety we ask that no child under 10 be left alone.

Is there anything I need to do after my wax?

If you experience any redness feel free to use hydrocortisone. Any redness should dissipate in 1-24 hours. For the first few days after your wax avoid hot tubs, swimming pools, tanning, and highly perfumed products. Exercise or sex? Perfectly fine, just be sure to cleanse skin afterwards. Be sure not to shave in between your waxes and keep up on exfoliating and moisturizing. We can help you find your ideal exfoliating method to avoid/lessen ingrown hairs and breakouts. Moisturizing (coconut oil works great is naturally antimicrobial) helps keep the hair soft so the wax can grab it and it lessens irritation/lifting of skin during your wax.

What kind of wax do your use?

We use some of the highest quality hard (strip-less) and soft (strip) waxes available. We love both Cirepil and Lycon hard wax for more sensitive areas such as Brazilian, bikini, face, and underarms. Hard wax melts at a lower temperature, is removed without a strip, and is gentle enough to go over areas multiple times without compromising the skin. Cirepil soft wax is used for larger areas such as legs, arms, back, and chest. Soft wax is applied thinner, removed with a pellon strip, and can be very speedy.

Is there anything that will prevent me from waxing?

Yes! You should avoid waxing if you are using Acutane, Retin-A, Differin, Renova, certain anti-biotics, and other prescription acne medications. In addition, you should post-pone waxing if you have a sunburn, had a recent chemical peel, or had a recent laser treatment. All of these have potential for skin lifting, burning, and scaring. In certain cases blood thinning medications and a diagnosis of diabetes can cause issues with waxing. Please reschedule your appointment if you are having a current herpes outbreak (open sores), pubic or head lice, scabies, ringworms, yeast infection, or pink eye. Contact us if you have questions about any medical conditions or medications prior to your appointment.
